DRC/Luba. Rare mask of the south-east Luba people "Zela" representing a felid, in carved wood. 1st half of the 20th century. H X cm plexi base included.
A letter of expertise from Marc Leo Felix (Congo Gallery) accompanies the work and confirms its authenticity.
This work is to be compared with a series of similar masks from the Stewart J. Warkow collection exhibited at the QCC Art Gallery in New York. They are illustrated (p 72-73) in the book "Beauty and the beast" by Marc Leo Felix, published for the exhibition of the collection in 2003.
