HEAD OF A FAUNUS Italy, 16th century Marble stone Accidents H. 30 cm, W. 22 cm, D. 28 cm Our faun shows a subject more rarely treated in sculpture than the faun, its male counterpart. However, they were the delight of Renaissance enthusiasts for whom artists such as André Riccio (ca. 1470/1532) composed small bronze groups depicting the frolicking of a Faun and a Faunette.
