Not presented - Carved MARBLE MODILLON in the shape of a lion's head Venice, 16th century Verona marble H. 35 cm, W. 35 cm, D. 55 cm Our Venetian lion was originally intended to be placed under the cornice of a building to enliven its walls, inside or outside. They are architectural ornaments without any architectural function. They were often moved to a wall or a chimney, sometimes serving as a support for a vase or other art object.
