BASSELIN (Olivier). Les Vaudevires, poems of the 15th century. Vire, [Avranches, F. le Court], 1811. In-8, emerald green morocco, triple fillet, ornate spine, inner lace, gilt edges (Trautz-Bauzonnet). False title, title, xxxvi pp., 131 pp. The vaudevires of the Norman gourmand poet Olivier Basselin (1403-1470) were first published around 1576, but only one early edition is known from around 1670. Rare and luxurious edition, established at the initiative of Auguste Asselin, sub-prefect of Vire, who wrote the preliminary speech on the life of the poet and the final notes; he was supported in this enterprise by 9 other inhabitants of Vire, whose list is found at the beginning of the work: all of them paid for the printing. Only 148 copies of this edition were printed. One of the 64 on vellum paper. In a pleasant binding, it has been enriched with an original pen-and-ink drawing, illustrating vaudevire IV, signed Henry Robillard, perhaps the son of one of the subscribers, J. B. Robbillard, receiver of the registration rights in Vire. Copy bearing an ex-dono of "J. B. Robbillard to his friend Louis Dubois" : Louis-François Du Bois (1773-1865) will be himself the author of a Dissertation on songs, vaudeville and Olivier Basselin (Caen, 1820). From the Norman library of Count Alfred d'Auffay (bookplate). Some foxing, important on some leaves. Vicaire, 69.
