Achim Moeller, Director of the Lyonel Feininger Project LLC, New York - Berlin, has confirmed the authenticity of this work, which is registered in the Archive of the Lyonel Feininger Project under number 1771-02-14-22. A certificate is enclosed.

Feininger probably dedicated the work to his long-time friend Walter Kaesbach (1879-1961). The art historian and former director of the Municipal Museum in Erfurt owned many works by Feininger, including five paintings.
