Uncommon brooch in 14k pink gold (585 thousandths - 18k clasp) composed from a piece of enamelled yellow gold. The front side of the piece represents Catherine II of Russia, empress between 1762 and 1796, whose bust is delicately enamelled in colors and illuminated by a few touches of diamond chips. Surrounded by diamond chips on a metal border. Nice condition with very slight lacks to the enamel.
Enameled coins of this type were very popular in the late Victorian era, when the world had a taste for unusual jewelry like "Royal Memorabilia". Usually on silver coins, enameling of this fineness is found more rarely on gold coins, such as the one presented by Millon Belgium. The representations were typically coats of arms, floral motifs and past rulers. 1768 yellow gold 10 ruble coin with the crowned bust of Catherine II of Russia to the right.
