Jean-Francis AUBURTIN (1866-1930)

Les Falaises de Varengeville Gouache on paper pasted on cardboard monogrammed lower left 50 x 67 cm Provenance: > Private collection, Paris Jean-Francis Auburtin is currently the subject of a retrospective exhibition "Un âge d'or" at the Musée de Lodève, from September 25, 2021 to March 27, 2022. He will also be honored at the Camille Pissaro Museum in Pontoise from April 23 to August 21, 2022. During his career, the painter, inspired by the symbolism of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, coterie Auguste Rodin, Isadora Duncan, Loīe Fuller ... He discovered Varengeville-sur-Mer in 1904 and bought a piece of land there in 1907 where he built his house. The village, already portrayed by Claude Monet (whom he met between 1896 and 1897) inspired many painters in the image of Georges Braque who is buried there, as is Jean-Francis Auburtin.
