ZAMBECCARI, Francesco. Descrizione della macchina aerostatica del cittadino Francesco Zambeccari. Destinata a tentare il regolamento della medesima per l'Atmosfera. Bologna: Fratelli Masi e Compagno, 1803. First edition, small in-8; 32p., [3p. Dimensioni della nuova macchina, Dimensioni della Mongolfiera, Peeso della macchina), frontispiece (the Montgolfier Brothers), 3 folding plates (balloon, parts of the balloon, instruments). Complete with the "Catalogo di tutte le parti che compongono la Macchina Aerostatica". Bound in later basane, smooth spine decorated with golden balloons, author's name, title, marbled endpapers, printed on fine paper; a fine untrimmed copy with full margins. The description of the hydrogen and air balloon with which Francesco Zambeccari (1752-1812) carried out, in company of Pasquale Andreoli, the first nocturnal ascent in Italy in the region of Bologna from the 7th to the 8th October 1803. The balloon ended up in the Adriatic Sea and Zambeccari suffered frostbite on his hand which required the amputation of three fingers. He died in a last accident in 1812.
