[Persian miniatures]. Anonymous (17th cent.). (A prince on horseback going out on a falcon hunt with 4 retainers, a town (Jaipur?) in the background). Opaque watercolour, ink and gold on paper, sky area partly coloured in silver and partly in blue, central miniature (18,5x12,4 cm.), surrounded by two borders: inner border consisting of gilt floral decoration on a darkblue ground, outer border very richly decorated with flowers, flowering plants and birds, 32,4x23 cm. (incl. borders), painted on gold flaked paper, framed. - A few (undisturbing) old restorations in borders: in upper right corner (patch of 2x2,5 cm. of the floral border restored) and left of center a closed tear; in left margin: a few (partly closed) sm. tears; both vertical borders surrounding the inner border were apparently corrected at upper and lower end but are still vaguely visible (in lower border to the left of the peacock there are some faint sl. darkened traces of the correction); a few minute tears in outer ochre coloured plain margin surrounding the richly decorated floral border on three sides; 2 tiny wormholes in sky area, a few tiny wormholes in floral border. Not examined outside frame, but prob. mounted along margins. = Interesting miniature, in the style of the famous Shah Jahan album miniatures, with the detailed drawings of flowers and birds in margins.
