Maison Quantin, Paris 1890. In-4, 245pp, bound.
First edition of this work magnificently illustrated with a title-frontispiece in colors, a back cover in colors and 150 watercolors by Charles Lallemand engraved by Michelet. Printed on large paper, strong vellum. The watercolors were made in situ by the author.
Light blue publisher's cardboard with a bevelled edge. Smooth spine decorated with a crescent and a star, rolls and a Tunisian in color in picturesque dress. Gilt edges. On the upper plate the title and the Tunisian flag. Plate signed Lenègre & cie.
(Soiling, some foxing and discoloration).
Beautiful copy of this superb publication, whose text constitutes a testimony on Tunisia at the end of the 19th century and a real admiration for its people, its history and its region.
