Hexagone au fleuron Lot n° 10

Central Asia, Timurid art, 15th century Hexagonal tile, decorated with black line and colored glazes enhanced with gold, decorated with white palmettes forming a fleuron around a four-lobed rosette from which emerge leafy stems. Turquoise border. Condition: chips on the rim, the border and the lower tip damaged. H. 15.5 cm ; L. : 14 cm Old collection number "3778" painted in red on one side. The technique known as "black line and colored glazes", formerly called "cuerda seca", follows the technique of ceramic mosaic and was developed in Central Asia from the second half of the fourteenth century. We find elements of coating of this type on the mausoleum of the Timurid dynasty in Samarkand, the Guri Amir (Arthur Pope, A Survey of Persian Art, Oxford University Press, London, vol. IV, p 421).
