The panel, traditionally ascribed to Utrecht, shows the Virgin and the Child seated on a throne with a panoramic landscape in the background. The throne occupies almost the entire width of the painting, this allows the artist to drape the Virgin's red mantle over Her right shoulder and knees as well as over the armrests of the throne, creating an impressive L-shaped curve. The background depicts a wide, sweeping landscape with with bodies of water and moated castles growing gradually smaller towards the distance and the silhouette of a city on the horizon.
