Roderic O'CONOR (1860-1940). Reclining Nude. Circa 1915-1917. Oil on canvas. 46 x 55 cm. Stamp "Atelier O'Conor" on the back. Provenance : Paris, Sale of the studio, Hôtel Drouot, February 7, 1956; French private collection; Burgundian private collection. The brushwork, the color palette and the general setting are similar to the paintings that O'conor produced in the 1916s. It is the result of a real work of composition to arrange the accessories and present the model in the painting. The crimson drapery covering the couch contrasts with the folding screen, and has been arranged in such a way that the bright bosom of the model contrasts with a dark panel. A frame appears in shadow on the right side while the left side reveals a series of ordinary objects such as a round table covered with a yellow tablecloth. The same table and tablecloth can be seen reflected in a mirror at the back of another reclining O'Connor nude (Christie's London, May 22, 1998, lot 166, for 65,000 pounds).
