Cologne - - Trips, Franz Xaver. Historia Carminica Accurate repraesentans initium et finem rebellionis qua circa Annum 1682 acta fuit inter Civis et Magistratum Coloniensem Ducibus Nicolao Gulich Abrahamo Sax usque ad Annum 1686. Latin poetry manuscript in 3 parts on good writing paper. No place, ca. 1690. 131 nn. Leaves, mostly inscribed on both sides in brown pen in regular Latin cursive. 20.5 x 16 cm. Paperback of the time (heavily bumped, large cover defects, spine ends missing). Unknown manuscript version of Trips' rhyming chronicle of the Gülich revoltin Cologne 1682-86. Trips (1630-1696) was a pastor in Bad Honnef from 1670, and as a historian he documented the contemporary history of the Rhineland. His eyewitness account of the Cologne civil unrest led by the merchant Nikolaus Gülich was printed posthumously in 1704 under the title "Quinquennalis seditio atque rebellis Ubiorum status." The present manuscript differs significantly not only in title. Compared to the print, for example, the "Praemonitio" to the first and the preface to the third part are not yet included. The chronographic subheadings inserted in all parts of the print do not appear in the manuscript until the third part, chronograms appear in it only towards the end. The core text, which is the same over long stretches, occasionally shows word deviations, for example, the final sequence of the second part here reads "Tertia pars, poenas supplicium ... canet" instead of "gladios, flagra ... canet" in print. We assume an early version from the time of writing and from the author's circle. - Title page somewhat worn and with later ownership note "Brühl". In the list of names at the beginning of the 26th elegy of the third part, the last four entries have been obliterated (included in print). Otherwise internally in good condition. #
