Collection of charters on parchment, containing donations made by kings and various individuals, mainly to the hospital of Burgos, in Spain. 12th - 17th century. Nota bene: the acts are dated according to the Actiacan era in use in Spain, which refers to the battle of Actium in 31 BC. Thus, the first act in this collection, dated 1156, actually dates back to 1118 of the Christian era ("our era"). Provenance: these acts are mainly related to the hospital of Burgos and the hospital of Valdefuentes (municipality of Arlanzon) which was later joined to it. Some of them appear in the inventories drawn up in the 18th century, others are completely unknown. It is probable that these acts disappeared during the events that shook Spain at the beginning of the 19th century. They were collected and carefully placed in a collection by the scholar Charles-Louis Frossard (1827-1902). A small volume in-folio, half fox-groove morocco, spine ribbed. Binding from the last third of the 19th century. Heraldic bookplate of Charles-Louis Frossard, of Nîmes, pastor of the Reformed Church of France, archivist of the general synod. Quick bibliography: José Manuel Cerda Costabal and Félix Martinez Llorente. Un documento inédito y desconocido de la cancilleria de la reine Leonor Plantagenet (En la España Medieval, T. 42, June 2019, pp. 59-91). Maria del Carmen Palacin Galvez and Luis Martinez Garcia. Documentacion del hospital del Rey de Burgos (1239-1277). Burgos, Fuentes medievales castellano-Leonesas, 43, 1990. Contains the following acts (all handwritten in brown ink, on parchment; mounted on tab). These lots will be sold under the faculty of reunion. They will be detached from their tabs only in case of a separate sale. A more detailed description of the lots, accompanied by numerous photographs, will be available in PDF format on request.
