[Fragment of the beginning of the penitential psalms in French in a book of hours for use in Rome, printed on parchment in Paris in 1606.
Ces presentes heures a lusaige de Rome, printed in Paris by Jean Barbier for Guillaume Du Puis, 20 November 1506.
Sheet printed on parchment, 113 x 188cm (145 x 224 cm)
: , in French and Latin, recto and verso on 29 long lines, initials painted in gold on alternating blue and red background, rich architectural frame printed and historiated with scenes from the life of Christ and the Virgin, saints and putti, on recto vignette with Bathsheba at the baths introducing the psalm, signature "miii" in lower margin.
Nice condition but the marquee surrounding the text has left a shadow and two marginal traces of tape.
Psalm 6 "Domine ne in furore tuo" and 32 "Beati quorum remisse sunt" followed by their French translation.
Interesting French translation of the penitential psalms, among the first known.
