The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, a missionary society and religious organization, also known by its acronym ISKCON, is part of the bhakti movement, dedicated to Krishna. It was founded in 1966 in New York in the New Age vogue by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. In India the Hare Krishna movement is considered by some Hindus as a branch of Hinduism, in the West it is often called a sect.
