Rare ceremonial knife representing a long-tailed animal. The head and the legs are delicately freed from the gangue of the obsidian core. The back of the animal is rounded and its long tail serves as a blade. These knives were found among the funeral offerings of warriors, associated with pottery. Two similar models are kept at the Art Institute of Chicago under the reference: 1997.362.1. Mahogany red obsidian Colima culture, Comala style, Mexico 100 BC - 250 AD H. 7 - L. 38 - Th. 2 cm Provenance: - Former Ramos collection, Texas, 1996. - Belgian collection.
