An Islamic mortar
Cast bronze with engravings and reddish golden natural patina, the majority of which obscured by sinter. Of tapering form with prortruding upper and lower rims, Decorated with three raised teardrop motifs and bands of calligraphy. The lower section buckled due to usage, with an older repaired horizontal crack, the lower edge damaged. H 16, D 17.8 cm, weight c. 6.4 kg.
