An Islamic mortar
Golden yellow cast bronze with engravings and copper inlays. Remnants of red pigment, slight verdigris. Of cylindrical form, decorated with two rows of lotus buds alternating with triangular motifs filled with tendrils. The rim and base inscribed with calligraphy. Dents to the upper rim. H 14, D 16.4 cm, weight c. 5.3 kg.
Attributed to Iran, 12th - 13th C.
