An Islamic mortar Engraved cast bronze with silver and copper inlays, faint traces of red pigment almost entirely obscured by verdigris. Of tapering form with protruding rim. Decorated with two rows of raised lotus buds alternating with rhombus motifs and cartouches with calligraphy. The upper rim with four silver circle motifs alternating with calligraphy. H 12.2, D 16.9 cm, weight c. 3.2 kg. Khorasan, 12th - 13th C. Provenance Archaeological find, Afghanistan.
