Karl Ludwig Seeger, View of Munich across the Isar River at dusk.
Oil on canvas. 1831. 50.6 x 72.5 cm. Signed and dated in lower left margin. Framed. //rg/95/4
View from the Haidhauser Höhe in a westerly direction of picturesque Munich. The city silhouette stands out against the evening sky, which has already turned yellowish-pink over Prater Island and Maximilianeum. The landscape is enlivened by a few staffage figures. In the Isar meadows and on the exposed gravel banks, people are fishing; further up, a small family is making its way home after a pleasurable walk. Karl Ludwig Seeger received his first artistic training with Louis Catoir in Mainz and from 1826 with Carl Rottmann in Munich. Because of his talent for rendering atmospheric light moods, he was soon called "Himmelseeger".
Taxation: differential taxed (VAT: Margin Scheme).
