Heinrich Adam, View of Riva del Garda. Oil on laid paper, mounted on strong cardboard. (1840s). 35,2 x 48,9 cm. Probably inscribed on verso under the mount. Framed. //rg/55/4 Heinrich Adam trained as an etcher at the Augsburg Art Academy. In 1811, together with his brother Albrecht, later head of the Adam family of painters, he traveled to Lake Como in northern Italy. During this time, guided by his brother, he discovered first watercolor and then oil painting for himself. His town views with their clear-cut forms are rooted in classicism, whereby they are loosened up by interspersed staffage figures, outgoing fishing boats or the like. Our veduta shows the municipality of Riva in Trentino, located on the northwestern tip of Lake Garda. At the southeastern edge of the old town, the moated castle Rocca di Riva with its four corner towers can be seen. Provenance: private property, Berlin. Taxation: Differentially taxed (VAT: Margin Scheme).
