Oil on canvas, doubled. 1787. 71.6 x 91.6 cm. Signed and dated lower right on the foundation of the well. Framed.
Harper continued his artistic training with Richard Wilson in Rome from 1752 and was in close exchange with Winckelmann. He then entered the service of Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg, whose court painter he became in 1759. In 1761 he was appointed professor at the Académie des Arts, which later merged with the High Carl School. The largest part of his œuvre can be found in Württemberg palaces.
