CIBOURE vase in Basque stoneware Arroka (in Basque, the rock) of the 60s period Suzanne Fischer in cameo of browns, conical form H23cm D10cm (TBE) In the early 1960s, Suzanne Fischer developed the Arroka style (the rock, in Basque). On the cookie, she applies, with a sponge, the barbotine (clay spread with water). Stylized motifs of flowers and swirling leaves are then chiseled into this material as it hardens. Before firing, the piece is then immersed in a bath of oxide either red or black (diluted in water) to obtain tones ranging from blue to green (from black), or a cameo of browns (from red). The Arroka style "is a rare testimony to the production method of the Ciboure factory, the work of the potter after turning and decorating but before glazing and firing.
