L.A.S. "Ballesdens", Hôtel Séguier March 9, [to Dom Thierry RUINART]; 1 page small in-fol. Very rare letter requesting the loan of a book. [Thierry RUINART (1657-1709), a Maurist scholar, was a disciple of Mabillon, and the author of martyrologies]. "My Very Reverend and very dear Father I have been ill for three months and I am the shame of the whole Faculty of Medicine because I am not getting better. This is what has prevented me from going to do my duties for you, and what obliges me today to beg you to give the bearer of this little note the book of Sanguinis Christi that I sent you by one of your brothers a few years ago. This good ecclesiastic wishes to read it in order to support some of the opinions he has on this subject. He will keep it for a short time, as he says, and when he has returned it I will put it in your hands, for it could not be better. In addition, I beg you to continue your beautiful works in which you revive the dead with a glorious life that will prolong your reputation until the end of the centuries. Extremely rare (only known letter in private hands, according to Raoul Bonnet; provenance: sale J. Charavay, 26-27 November 1857). The title page of Les Muses illustres (Paris, Louys Chamhoudry, 1658), with its autograph signature "Ballesdens" (from the collection of René Kerviler) is enclosed.
