French painter, student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, he was notably the pupil of Alexandre Cabanel and Eugène Fromentin. These works with historical subjects are present in the collections of the Musée des Beaux Arts de Nancy and the Petit Palais. This is an early copy of the 1874 painting, purchased that same year by the State and now on display at the Musée d'Orsay.
