American photographer, he started to photograph bodybuilding competitions in 1947, he created in 1956 the magazine The male figure. Traveling around the United States in search of new models and delivering his photos to buyers himself in order to avoid censorship by the Post Office, he notably influenced Robert Mapplethorpe, Herb Ritts or Bruce Weber.
