Lidded box "Eisvögel" - creation of Manfred Wild ,box citrine faceted (2410 ct.), lid rutile quartz, engraved and painted (motif: two feeding kingfishers on a branch in front of water landscape) and backed with white mother-of-pearl, painting signed and dated lower right "H. Bussmer 1994", mount made of 18 k, yellow gold (750) stamped and hallmarked, on the bottom cut signature "M(anfred) Wild", 9,8 x 7,1 cm (in oval), height: 4,2 cm, weight: 479 gr. (35-21)
>> The signature identifies Helmut Bussmer (b. 1937) as the painter of this box. The "Essex Crystals", named after the inventor William Essex (1784-1869), which are worked from their reverse side, are a great challenge for the engraver as well as for the painter, because especially the optical distortions (magnification and reduction effects) have to be considered.
