Pair of covered porphyry urns, molded and carved, in the form of a panelled baluster, decorated with two scrolled geminated handles, the lower part with twisted flutes, resting on a pedestal, the lids surmounted by a round flattened knob. Probably a Roman work of the Louis XIV period. Height : 53cm 53cm Width : 45cm (accidents and restorations, the lids probably reported). Bibliography : " Porphyry. Red Imperial. Roman work of the Louis XIV period. - An urn of a similar model but smaller and not fluted, Kohn sale, Hôtel Drouot, 7 June 2007, lot 21. Italy 18th century. - A drawing kept in the Louvre Museum (RF36716-88-folio 85) by Giovanni Angelo Canini (1609-1666) showing a vase of the same spirit as ours (one of the vases acquired by the Cardinal de Richelieu in 1633).
