Still life with melon, pomegranate, grapes and figs Canvas Signed lower right RL (linked) evieux 51 x 62 cm Renaud Levieux is the author of numerous religious compositions for churches and notables in Languedoc and Provence. For twenty years, from 1649 to 1669, he worked in Avignon, where he shared the market with Nicolas Mignard, then in Aix. He then moved to Rome where he spent his last thirty years. In addition to this activity of painting large classical altarpieces and Madonnas, he painted several independent still lifes, marked by the influence of Roman and Neapolitan still lifes and the compositions of Abraham Brueghel. Two of them are preserved in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Marseille (Fruits et fleurs à l'épagneul, Fruits et fleurs au perroquet; bibliography: Henri Wytenhove, Renaud Levieux et la peinture classique en Provence, Edisud, Aix-en-Provence, 1990, pages 122-123). Ours, with the entablature of the stone capital, can be compared to the one on the Allegory of Autumn, dated around 1667 (Aix-en-Provence, Musée des Tapisseries, op. cit., p.143, n°47, repr. p.145).
