NASA. Superb horizontal takeoff of a US Navy "REGULUS II" missile from its launch pad at EDWARDS AFB in California on December 10, 1957. The missile of almost 20 meters length has a needle nose and is built like an aircraft. It has a range of more than 1000 miles and can fly at 50,000 feet at a speed of 1200 miles per hour.
