THE CROSSING OF CHRIST Oil on canvas. Doubled.
90,5 x 72 cm.
In gilded magnificent frame.
The composition is probably based on a model by Roger van der Weyden (1399-1464). In the center the Jesus hanging on the cross with white moving sheet around his waist, above his head the attached shield with the inscription "INRI", to the right and left of him the crosses of the two thieves. Below the cross on the left side Mary in blue-white robe, slumped in pain with closed eyes, she is supported by John in red robe standing behind her. Jesus turns his gaze to the two. Clutching the cross is Mary Magdalenda, dressed in a fine robe and with long wavy hair, looking up at Jesus. To the right, several men in conversation and two soldiers in armor. In the background the evening sky above the wall around the city of Jerusalem. Figure-rich depiction in differentiated color tones. Partly rest., retouching. (1300491) (18)
