Pair of panels of a small house altar, probably formerly belonging to a tritychon. Depictions of TWO FEMALE Saints tempera on wood. Each 33,5 x 12,5 cm. Probably Umbria, second half of 15th century, c. 1500. In gilded, openwork carved frame. The pair of panels is accompanied by a detailed expert opinion by Alessandro Delpriori, Florence. Artist's appointment by expertise. The panels are of slender vertical format with semi-circular upper finish. Both figures in landscape with speckled ground zone, which turns green towards the back, on the horizon mountains in blue aerial perspective. The outer rims set off in red with gilded outer rim. The figure positioned on the left cannot be clearly identified. She is holding a book as well as a church model, which refers to a convent founder. In the counterpart, Saint Apollonia is shown. According to her martyrdom she holds a pair of tongs with a tooth and also a book. Dresses and cloaks in folds corresponding to the period of origin of the paintings. The diagonally set nimben discs leaf-gilded. Verso decorative original painting with stylized symmetrical foliage in volutes in gold ocher on a red ground. The panels in a gray colored cover frame, closed at the top semicircular. The expert opinion admits that the identification of the saints with church buildings is difficult, the suggestion to see Saint Barbara here is not completely convincing. As the author of the work is assumed in it the little-known painter Marino d'Angelo or d'Agnolo as possible. This attribution was made on the basis of comparison with a painting of the Virgin Mary, inscribed "OPUS MARINO AGNELI 1501", published by F. Tondini. The expertise refers to other works in comparison, such as Giannivola di Paolo, pupil of Vannucci, or with a depiction of the Madonna in the Lindenau Museum Altenburg, workshop Bernardino di Betto.
