"River Boats" by Pit Wagner Painter from Luxembourg pitwagner.lu India ink and watercolor on Vietnamese handmade paper, signed and dated 2002 lower left. Work framed under glass. Dimensions with frame: H: 72,5; W: 53 cm From sketches made on the spot in Vietnam during an illustration project initiated by the Ministry of Culture in 2002. Rivers are often borders, obstacles or transportation routes with high symbolic value. I like to draw ships, boats and other rafts, attracted by their metaphorical character and the aesthetics of the forms. This image has accompanied me for two decades on the wall of my home. Born in Luxembourg in 1954, the artist, engraver, illustrator and painter Pit Wagner trained in Art Studies at Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam from 1976 to 79 and started his career as a professional artist in 1980. Pit Wagner likes to interpret moments of life, moments of activity and movement that he captures live and freezes on paper. Working on the move, his sketches draw their inspiration from the street, nature and courtrooms. His art is to be understood as a story, a testimony of an experience or a moment in which his drawings are transformed into tales. It is therefore not surprising that since 2019, he officiates as a "Life Drawing" Teacher for animation students at Uni Luxembourg.
