Of oval shape, linen canvas of a beautiful fineness woven tight and embroidered with a waving garland of flowers and foliage in the border, and floral motifs in the rounding of the ends, table runner embroidered in the same way and inlaid with six needle lace motifs illustrating six Fables of the Fountain: The Cat and the Rat, The Frog that wants to be as big as the Ox, The Fox and the Grapes, The Heron and the Frogs, The Raven and the Fox, The Piglet the Cat and the Mouse.
Border hemmed with a later fringe.
Dim. 2.35 x 2 m at largest. (good condition, two small stains)
One of the specialties of the Lefébure factory was the creation of inlay motifs on the themes of the Fables of the Fountains, the tales of Charles Perrault or historical buildings such as French castles.
The theme of the inlays of this tablecloth as well as their quality of execution lean towards a production resulting from the Lefébure workshops
