114 Emmanuel Alfred BEURDELEY (known as Alfred II) Pair of small ormolu and blued metal torches representing a young faun standing on a tambourine, holding on his head a basket of fruits. The circular base is decorated with a frieze of water leaves and topped with a string of pearls. Attributed to Emmanuel Alfred Beurdeley. Louis XVI style, late 19th century. (Pedestals in blue enamelled metal probably redone, chips, deformations to the circular base of one of the torches). H : 24 5 cm The pair of torches we present is the one reproduced in L'Ameublement d'art français 1850-1900, Camille Mestdagh, Les éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 2010, page 275 (fig. 324). Although unsigned, these torches have a frieze of pearls characteristic of Beurdeley's productions. These pearls can be found on a pair of torches of an identical model reproduced in L'Ameublement d'art français 1850-1900, Camille Mestdagh, Les éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 2010, page 275 (fig. 324); as well as on the flamed mahogany commode with fauna that we present in this sale (lot n°124). A pair of identical torches belonging to the Beurdeley collection was sold on May 16, 1979 (Ribault-Menetiere-Lenormand, Palais d'Orsay, lot n°22).
