[CHINA] Albert NACHBAUR / WANG NGEN JOÛNG - Chinese Folk Images, Mîn, Kién, Tché, T'ou, Siáng = Min jian zhi tu xiang 民間之圖像. Beijing, Na-Che-Pao (Nashibao) 那世寶, 1926. In-folio, 530 x 370 mm, bradel black banded half-percaline, orange publisher's silk boards rebacked (small red stain on black band on upper board, silk on lower board removed and partially detached at margin), original labels pasted on upper board, smooth muted spine, blue patterned paper counterpanes and endpapers (1 endpaper wrinkled), ORIGINAL EDITION issued in 220 numbered copies, 20 of which are off the market (no. 150). [92] leaves (including explanatory, supporting, blank and illustration ff.). Illustrated with 39 colored woodcuts printed on China paper and mounted on supporting sheets, including 2 large fold-outs (qqs. small tears and/or small angular losses), 19 loose sheets of ideograms printed in black on a red background of variable dimensions and 39 loose black prints on China paper, of various sizes (several tears). The ex. also contains 1 small woodcut in colors. Good condition. Book explaining these popular engravings used as interior decorations throughout the year: affixed to door pillars or domestic altars, they are very colorful and decorative and celebrate various holidays such as New Year (12th Moon Festival) with the so-called Nianhua New Year images 年畫, Spring (5th Moon Festival or Summer Solstice Festival - Dragon Festival) or 8th Moon (Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival).
