Self-protecting fan, Japan, 19th century Very rare folded fan, self-protecting, the double paper sheet without decoration.
The strands are made of natural bamboo. The plumes are made of steel.
The profile of the plumes is in the shape of an "L" which fit together when the fan is closed, thus ensuring a total protection to the leaf.
