GOLDEN MIRROR ON RED BACKGROUND Sweden, early 18th century Gold eglomised glass on red background; gilt pewter; mirror two small glasses broken at the top and some restorations
H. 140 cm, W. 78 cm (mirror without frame: 77 x 60 cm)
Provenance
Collection Mme P.
This glass mirror in eglomised glass with gold flowered scrolls on a red background is crowned by a pediment compartmentalized around a central medallion.
The crown in curves and counter-curves is topped by a vase garnished with fruit and flanked by two bunches of roses in gilded pewter. Its flowery contours are underlined by acanthus and vegetal garlands while the frames are bordered by friezes of interlacing.
Burchard Precht, by his trade of mirror-maker, worked the pewter but traditionally one speaks about ornaments in gilded lead.
