PAIR OF ARMCHAIRS upholstered in chased velvet REGENCY PERIOD Carved beechwood; chased silk velvet Good condition, some pitting H. 116 cm, W. 60 cm, D. 56 cm Provenance Collection Mme P. This pair of armchairs, decorated with shells on the back, waist and top of the legs, is characteristic of early 18th-century French seating (fi g. 1-2). Carved acanthus leaves support the curved back, finish the armrests and enrich the base. The four arched legs, articulated around an X-shaped brace centered on a fl eur, rest on small split hooves. Our armchairs are richly upholstered in chased silk velvet with green floral motifs on a yellow background.
