A waterfall, a village in the distance, a farm, fields and a wooded setting serve as a country setting for a pastoral scene. While a farmer rests from his work, a small flock of sheep and a bovine graze under the watchful eye of the shepherdess. This one has the glance attracted by a "gypsy" carrying her child on the back and telling the "good fortune" (activity which exists since the XIth century), with a young credulous peasant woman having her son clutched to her petticoats. A crown of multicolored flowers serves as a figurative frame.
