Koro cup
Nigeria
Wood, vegetal fibers H. 59 cm
Rare Koro cup of great dimension. A head, with eyes represented by tree seeds and decorated with a crest, perched on a long cylindrical neck appears at one end. Superb native restorations attest to the object's cult value. According to Roy Sieber: "This type of cup was used during ceremonial sacrifices and second burial rites, to drink beer or palm wine." According to Marla Berns and Richard Fardon: "This double Gbene bowl, is used in funeral celebrations or masquerades, and allows two people to drink at the same time."
