Maori fighting stick Taiaha
New Zealand Wood, mother-of-pearl of haliotis
H. 155 cm
A two-handed weapon and an object of prestige, the end of this fighting stick is decorated with a double face of a tiki whose tongue takes the form of a chiseled decorated blade. The steady gaze of the mythical being is emphasized by inclusions of mother-of-pearl haliotis. Rare are the taiaha entirely covered with engraved decoration.
