These pieces were made from two separate clay moulds, as evidenced by the hundreds recovered from excavations at the site of Amarna. The earthenware paste was pressed into each mould, the bevel and shank, and the resulting pieces were joined together. The glaze, turquoise blue in this case, was then applied and the whole ring was fired.
The Eye of Horus, Udyat "he who is complete", was a symbol of apotropaic characteristics, i.e. magical, protective, purifying, healing, a solar symbol embodying order, the undisturbed, the perfect state. The Udyat is a symbol of cosmic-state stability.
