A very fine proof on laid paper, of the 1st state (of 7), before new cuts, notably the horizontal cuts shading the pillar to the right of the shell, carefully washed, the normal median vertical fold slightly weakened on the reverse, with small surrounding thinning in the paper. Fine persistent light trace of oxidation around the subject. A tiny pinhole visible by transparency. A few small chips or tears at the edges of the folio. Two tiny moisture rings at the foot. All margins [763 x 530].
