Painter, draughtsman and engraver but above all sculptor, Baron François Joseph Bosio was born in Monaco. Official artist under the First Empire and the Restoration, pupil of Augustin Pajou, he first worked in Italy and was then recruited by Vivant Denon who entrusted him with the realization of bas-reliefs for the column of the Place Vendôme. On this occasion, he also became Napoleon's portraitist and executed a bust of the Empress Josephine. He then began a brilliant career, receiving important commissions from Louis XVIII and Charles X who raised him to the rank of Baron.
