"Biblical scenes".
Engravings on paper.
Painted by Lucas Jordán (Luca Giordano).
Engraved by José Castillo.
Measurements: 11 x 18,5 cm; 19,5 x 30 cm.
In this pair of engravings two scenes of religious character can be appreciated. One of them represents the calm of the storm that is collected in the New Testament Luke 8:22-25. A passage that narrates how Jesus, accompanied by his disciples in a boat, fell asleep while a storm was raging, which alerted the apostles, who woke him up. After being awakened, Jesus calmed the storm. In the other scene we can see an old man holding a child and being appealed to by the great figure of God, while behind him we can see the presence of a woman also holding a child. An image that refers to the Old Testament, perhaps a theatricalisation of the story of Abraham. In both cases, the location of the original paintings to which these two works refer (El Palacio del Buen Retiro) can be read at the bottom of the images.
