16th century Castilian school. "The Birth of the Virgin". Oil on canvas. Measurements: 49 x 47 cm. It presents repainting and loss in the upper central area and upper right corner. The theme of the Birth of the Virgin is one of the most popular in Christian art. The artist underlines the traditional intimate and domestic tone of the scene wrapping Saint Anne with women. She is shown rising from her bed to drink the broth offered to her. The newborn, dressed in the costume of the time, is surrounded by them and is suckled by a wet nurse.
