Bust of the Republic in Sèvres cookie
Mounted on a base covered with burgundy leather decorated and marked with a small iron in gold: "Bust of the Republic which appeared on the desk of Georges Clemenceau".

Accompanied by a letter from Dr. Jean-François Lemaire dated 29 III 1977, confirming the ownership of the said bust given in 1930 by Jean Martet, man of letters and former secretary of Clemenceau.

Height on base : 40 cm.
Biography : Son of a merchant, Jean Martet (1886-1940) became Georges Clemenceau's secretary from July 1915 and remained his friend and confidant until his death in 1929. His work is mainly composed of novels, notably set in the region of Vaison-la-Romaine, and of works about his former boss. He was an appreciated and prolific writer, whose several works were published posthumously.
